When we first reviewed Access Remote PC years ago, they scored a bit higher. However, when we revisited the software, they appeared out-of-date. In fact, they relate June 7, 2008, as their last version update. This software is also not as visually appealing or simple to use as our highest-ranked products. We decided to keep this service ranked on our Remote PC access software comparison because if you type "Access Remote PC," which is a broad and generic search term, into Google they come up number one in the search results. Since our readers can easily find this service, we thought it was prudent to review it and let them know what our experiences were.
We ran into several issues while reviewing this remote PC software. The first thing we noticed was that our credit card was charged for a "free trial." The second issue was that we kept getting an error code when we tried to connect. And the third problem was that they did not answer our email queries. We strive to give everyone a chance to rank well and receive a fair review, but we cannot recommend a service that we could not get to work fully or one that does not respond to customer emails. In the future, we will check in on Access Remote PC to see if they have resolved their issues.
Since this software uses a Java client, you can access your remote PC from any computer or laptop. Their website says it can play music and sounds, reboot remote computers and support dual monitors. However, we could not verify that it can perform these functions since the software didn't work for us.
Assuming you can get this remote access software to work, it does have a hefty collection of sharing tools. Using access remote PC you can synchronize files, share items using the clipboard, or drag and drop files between PCs. They report on their website that they are intending to add a text chat tool.
We ran into some trouble trying to get their RPC (remote PC) service to work. Like most remote PC services, you first have to install software onto the host PC, which was easy. The second step requires that you run a Java client on the local PC. We did this on our test PC after installing an updated Java version from the Oracle website. We attempted to connect to our remote PC four times but it kept displaying an error code. We logged in to another remote PC tool to check to make sure that the Access Remote PC software on the remote side was enabled. The remote software displayed the status as "connected." However, since they never responded to our email queries, this issue was not resolved.
This remote access software company displays an extensive list of security features on their website. They use 160-bit RC4 encryption and cyclic redundancy checking to secure data transfers. It can create one-time passwords and unlimited user accounts. We like that it has IP filtering and inactivity timeouts. We would like to see them add host screen blanking and keyboard blocking.
Access Remote PC can be contacted by email or telephone. They do not post a telephone number on their website, but they do show a toll-free number in their emails. We contacted them by email to ask them about an error code. They responded with an email that did not address this error; it just gave us our account information. We assume that this email was automatically generated and sent when we signed up. We contacted them a second time by email to ask them why our credit card had been charged the subscription price for their "free trial." They did not respond to this email; however, when we checked later the charge to our Visa was removed. Another support feature to note is that you have to sign in as a customer with Plimus, a third-party eCommerce support company, to cancel your subscription. Though Plimus was easy to login to and use, we would like to see them let customers cancel service with Access Remote PC directly.
We are not in the business of writing scathing reviews. However, we will report our experiences. When we first visited the Access Remote PC website we saw an extensive feature list so we tried them out. We attempted to connect remotely using this software but could not connect and never received a response from customer support to get help. Therefore, we cannot recommend this product to our readers at this time. If they improve their product and customer support, we willingly and happily will update their review .
Pros
The client runs with Java so it can connect regardless of the operating system.
Cons
We could not get this product to work and customer support did not answer our questions.
Since they do not provide adequate support, we cannot recommend Access Remote PC at this time
